Sunday School
Good morning,
Our building project is finally underway. This week the excavating company was out doing prep work for the foundation of the new addition. We hope to be back in the church on Sunday mornings for the worship service in a few weeks.
However, because the building project won’t be complete until early to mid November, starting Sunday School back up won’t happen until later this fall. The builders may be using some of the downstairs for a while. When we start it up again we would like to structure Sunday School a bit differently. Here is what we are thinking in a Q & A format:
What is Sunday School?
In the recent past Sunday School has being an open-ended commitment running from the fall through the early summer. We have offered two adult classes – a ladies’ class led by Devon Fite and a general class led by me. We have also offered a youth class and a children’s class.
What is changing about Sunday School?
What we would like to try is offering what are essentially six-to-eight week “electives” for the adults. Electives are classes that are geared toward a specific topic or worship practice. Electives would be offered once a quarter.
We would then ask folks to commit to attending the elective for those six-to eight weeks, so that the leaders know how many folks are coming to their class and can have the right amount of materials.
What types of topics would be offered?
We would likely have a general Bible study class each time. Other topics that might be offered could be on finances, marriage, parenting, prayer, worship, etc… The only limit is what folks would be willing to offer.
I should note as well that an elective doesn’t have to be a book study. I would love for people to be creative! If you want to use your talents in art, cooking, music, tech, etc… go for it! For example, Mary is planning to lead a quilt knotting and prayer time elective.
What about the children and youth?
We will continue to offer those classes during the elective weeks.
I have an idea for an elective I would be willing to lead…who do I talk to?

When will the fall elective start?
That is to be determined, but we are hoping for six-week electives to start at the end of October.
Why are we making this change?
We are hoping that these shorter electives (and more options) will encourage people to participate in Sunday School and allow some different folks to use their God-given gifts and passions as leaders. Ultimately our goal is to provide for some smaller-group fellowship in a way that is engaging people where they are in their spiritual journey and doing it in a fun way.

1. SUNDAY -We are in need of someone to provide the pre-service snack this Sunday. Please let me know if you are able to help out with this. We could also use a couple of people to help direct traffic for folks who need dropped off near the woods.
2. SUNDAY – Elder Nominations are due. Please see me for a form and turn completed forms back into me.
3. SUNDAY – Youth Group Luncheon from after the worship service until 1 pm
4. 10/2 – Youth Group at Cherry Crest Corn Maze
5. 10/8 – Youth Group
6. 10/11 – Double Nickels Lunch after the Worship Service
7. 10/22 – Youth Group
8. 10/30 – Harvest Party
9. 11/3 – Double Nickels Service Project at Blessings of Hope
10. 11/22 – Thanksgiving Meal
This Sunday we wrap up our series on the Minor Prophets by looking at the last book in the Old Testament – Malachi. When God’s people questioned His love, He reminded them, “I have loved you” — a love ultimately demonstrated through Jesus Christ. We will look at how even when our faithfulness wavers and our circumstances change, God’s love never changes
